AJ Michalka<\/strong> will reprise her role as Lainey<\/strong> from the flagship and join the cast of the offshoot, which has received a 13-episode<\/em> order following a unique path to the screen.<\/p>\n

ABC<\/strong> is expanding the world of The Goldbergs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Disney-owned network has handed out a 13-episode<\/strong> series order for the 1990s-set spinoff formerly known as Schooled<\/em>. Additionally, former Goldbergs<\/strong> series regular AJ Michalka<\/strong>, who plays Barry<\/em>‘s (Troy Gentile<\/em>) ex-girlfriend, Lainey<\/strong>, has joined the cast of the untitled project, which has been retooled after original star Nia Long<\/em> was no longer available. (Long<\/em> is a series regular on CBS<\/em>‘ NCIS: L.A<\/em>.) The series will air during the 2018-19<\/strong> broadcast season and follow the teachers of William Penn Academy<\/strong> \u2014 led by Tim Meadows<\/em>‘ Principal Glascott<\/em>, Bryan Callen<\/em>‘s Coach Mellor<\/em> and Michalka<\/em>‘s Lainey Lewis<\/strong> \u2014 who, despite their eccentricities and crazy personal lives, are heroes to their students. <\/p>\n
