Also, Aly & AJ gave an interview and said that their new upcoming EP would be called “Sanctuary” and contain 5 tracks.
American pop rock duo Aly & AJ returned with a new song “Church”, which is their first music in near two years. Their last EP “Ten Years” was released in November 2017.
The song will appear on their upcoming 5-track second EP “Sanctuary” in the coming months. And the duo will embark on a North American tour of the same name.
“We fixated over lyrics much more deeply than we ever have on past songs, to the point where it almost would take us away from the song,” Aly said. “We would be over it or [think] this song isn’t gonna work. Then we would come around back to it a month later and start fiddling with it again and change some lyrics.”
“We really didn’t have time to do any more than five [songs],” Aly said. “The next chapter for us is to do a 10-song album.”
Aly & AJ have a lot in store for 2019. The sisters and bandmates staged an epic return with the unveiling of their Ten Years EP last year. Clearly their creative juices are flowing because they are gearing up to drop a second EP in the coming months. Called Sanctuary, it will be supported with a North American tour of the same name.
According to a press release, the 5-track collection pushed the duo to explore some deeper material. That meant moving beyond writing about relationships to tackle subjects such as mental health. “It is our duty to write some songs that we felt were socially conscious,” Aly explained in a shared statement. It sounds like Sanctuary is shaping up to be an absolute must-listen.
