Aly & AJ gave the exclusive interview for Just Jared; they talk about their new together movie, Weepah Way For Now, and their new music. You can buy the movie that was released on June, 14th, and it was played in Laemmle’s Royal in Los Angeles. By the way, some time ago, Aly visited Top 5 Live where she called the tittle of one of the songs that we are going to hear. The song calls “As Good As It Was” that is written about one of AJ’s experiences.

Just Jared: Aly, how did your husband [Stephen Ringer], get the idea for this movie? Were you and AJ always interested in producing and starring in it?

Aly Michalka: At the time AJ and I had been living together for a few months in a house on Weepah Way in Laurel Canyon. Stephen was over at our place a lot since we were dating and he happened to come up with the idea to make a film based on our personalities but with a fictional story. When the two of us read the script we were blown away at how accurate it was when it came to our relationship as sisters. We ended up going into production on the film 8 months later by personally self funding part of the film along with the help of friends, family & investors.

JJ: AJ, What was your favorite scene to shoot? Do you have a favorite prop from set?

AJ Michalka: My favorites would probably be the 1st scene in the movie along with the swimming pool scene when we’re reminiscing about our childhood. Favorite prop would definitely be our dogs! Roadie & Willow are especially featured in the movie and all of the dogs have their own credit at the end of the film.

JJ: Did you have any personal experiences you had to channel for these roles?

Aly & AJ: The most therapeutic element to the shoot was channeling how we felt in our own lives when we moved out after our parents got divorced. We have great relationships with both of them but it wasn’t always easy those first couple of years. Time always heals though.

JJ: Aly, what was it like to work with your husband? Was it all fun and games?

Aly: It’s funny because we decided to have Stephen move in with us a month before we started filming. We shot the entire movie in a house we were renting at the time, so it really put all of our relationships to the test and in the end it turned out to be a beautiful experience. Obviously there were times where we were tired or stressed from a long day of shooting, but Stephen was incredibly calm on set and off. We would all watch Game of Thrones at the end of a long day (we were behind by 3 seasons at this point).

JJ: You have new music in the works! Tell us what we can expect to hear from your new songs. What’s the vibe? Are the songs mostly about love?

AJ: The new music is headed in a more indie pop sound than ever before. It’s definitely different than any record Aly and I have made in the past. A lot of the songs are about love, but we also touch on our childhood and the nostalgia we still have for it. We plan on writing some songs about female empowerment as well as loving yourself and others despite human imperfections or differences.

JJ: Aly, your one year wedding anniversary just passed. How did you celebrate?

Aly: The two of us took off to Santa Barbara with our dog Bixby & stayed at San Yisidro Ranch. We had such a great getaway reminiscing about the past year. From all of the trips we’ve been on together, to adopting a puppy, and even buying a house:)

JJ: Any fun summer plans?

Aly: Our summer plans are attending friends weddings! We have 4 of them this year. We both go back to our shows this summer, AJ to the Goldbergs here in LA, and myself to Vancouver for iZombie. And of course I’ll be traveling back and forth making the record with AJ when I have days off from filming.
